WeatherBook

General Review, by D. Koval

This book has glossy pages with plenty of high quality, full-color photographs, maps and illustrations on every page.  An index and glossary are provided in the back for reference, as well as a full color 3-page pullout summarizing types of clouds and weather.  My daughter is studying Physical Science this year and the pull-out makes an interesting and excellent supplement from which to study.
The introduction includes a very good explanation as to why bad weather exists, beginning with creation, the fall of man and the good news of the gospel.  Chapter 1 entitled “God Created” gives evidence of God’s perfect design (distance from sun and moon, tilt of the earth, chemical composition of the atmosphere, to name a few).  My favorite chapter explained how to read a weather map, with a colorful  chart explaining the symbols used by meteorologists.  As each type of weather was covered, valuable safety tips were given, along with appealing news facts.   In the chapter on the Ice Age, clear explanations of the evolution-uniformitarian model and the creation-Genesis flood model were given.  Greenhouse warming and ozone layers were also addressed in the chapter entitled “Future Climate.”  One of the last chapters included step-by-step instructions on building your own weather station.
This is a very comprehensive and interesting book on weather.  The engaging text, beautiful illustrations and photographs  make it perfect for teaching older children about weather and the wonders of God’s creation.
