 General Review, by Catherine Myers:

A standard hand-out in many churches in America, Our Daily Bread is one of the flagships of daily devotionals.  In print since 1956, this publication is designed to lead and encourage believers in establishing the habit of a daily quiet time with the Lord.   It is an especially good resource for new believers, as well as for families with children, as the devotions are written in a style and level that even young children can understand.   However, more mature/older believers may find the relative simplicity of Our Daily Bread to be less than challenging for them.

Each day’s devotion starts with a Scripture reading, followed by an anecdote relating to the Scripture, and finishing with a life application, Scripture exposition, or encouraging story.  Most devotions also include poetry and/or a meaningful quote relating to the day’s topic.  Readers will need a Bible for their Our Daily Bread quiet time.   Although RBC Ministries does offer Our Daily Bread in various formats, such as large print and Scripture versions, most churches and mail recipients of the publication receive the format without Scripture included, requiring readers to use their Bibles.   This is a wonderful publication that I especially recommend for new believers, families, and those wanting to cultivate the discipline of Bible reading, meditation, and prayer.
